Denmark is not exactly the country of rivers - at least only small narrow ones. On the other hand, we are indeed the country of bridges, while we have many islands linked up to the mainland's. On top of that - soon we will have THE BRIDGE - Storebaeltsbroen (The Great Belt Bridge) - the bridge of all times - linking the western Denmark and the eastern Denmark up in a gigant combined bridge (for cars) and tunnel (for trains) - construction - with a length of more than 15 kilometers ! It was supposed to be the world greatest - but unfortunately the Japanese seems to overtake before this (delayed - by the way) project comes to an end. The project itself have been discussed for almost a century in Denmark. It used to be a distant dream - and now suddenly ended up as a close-by reality ! Under the pillars and the tunnel tubes, a century of discussion and doubt will be buried - what is left, is our wondering about what "The Gigant Bridge" will do to the spirit of the tiny country ? We are leaning on a milestone - which whole character we hardly know anything about - which we can't describe - just like the whole world is trying to understand what the explosion in "communication bridges", materialized in Internet, satellites, digital transmission etc., will do to us. "The Sound Walls" composition - "The Gigant Bridge" - circles around this feeling and this change developing. The composition will among others, include samples of historical excerpts, impressions on architects/engineers dreams/reality and impressions of the life right now on the bridge (where engineers, technicians and workers from all over Europe are gathered in a tight teamwork (...communicating in a variety of European languages - and after finishing the bridge there will be no voices heard.....just vehicles passing each other in two directions !!!!). The composition will be partly live and partly pre-produced - and in our broadcast in 3 parts, each lasting approx. 30 minutes. For "the Victor-satellite-transmission", we will deliver - we suggest - 20 minutes. |
