She got the blues. She was an amazing performer. She transformed music into a transcendental experience. And still gives us goose bumps. She was only 27 years old. On October 4, 1970 she was found dead in a hotel room with an overdose of heroin in her blood.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Janis Joplin's death, writers and artists Ruth Johanna Benrath and Nika Pfeifer take the opportunity to remember her in a unique way. Janis' cool, electrifying presence serves them as a starting point for an exchange, an experiment in finding answers: What does Janis mean to them? What is left of her? What is the essence of her songs?

Written across the Atlantic, Ruth Johanna Benrath and Nika Pfeifer share poems and texts with each other - short, pictorial associations - AIRmail between Europe and the USA. It is all about Janis, her voice, about blues, rock and jazz, about love, death, women, men, fandom, drugs, separation, despair, but also about ecstasy, excitement, about new beginnings. In addition, they reflect on the current situation, talk about themselves, about their first encounter with Janis. And sing excerpts from Joplin's songs..

The versatile artistic concept of the two writers is congenially complemented by the contribution of the sound duo Milena Kipfmüller and Klaus Janek. They create soundscapes and act as an interface linking the accoustic staging, radio, and sound art.
