RADIO ZEITGLEICH: 107.7 FM

The following sound material was transmitted during the exhibition on the frequency 107.7 FM, a frequency normally used by the ORF for outside broadcasts:

At irregular intervals, three to four times a day:

  • short descriptions of the ZEITGLEICH exhibition in German, Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian and Turkish.
  • "ZEITGLEICH", radio jingle for an exhibition by Bernhard Loibner.
  • A short radio spot by Andres Bosshard.
Once only, towards the end of the exhibition:
A programme about "ZEITGLEICH", produced by the group FREIRAD Tirol.

Round the Clock:
The live part of the installation by Bill Fontana, recorded on a microphone installed in one of the hollowed-out tree-trunks which once formed part of the brine pipe in the Hall Valley and connected to the salt warehouse by a cable belonging to Austrian PTT. What could be heard was the sound of the resonance of the pipe and the sounds of the surrounding environment filtered through the pipe: birds, barking dogs, work sounds, rain, thunder...

The actual purpose of the transmitter was the control of the live transmission from the Hall Valley by ORF technicians. However, for passing cars or people living near the salt warehouse it provided a highly unusual alternative to the radio programmes to which they are accustomed, subject as they are to strict temporal regulation and fragmentation: on 107.7 FM one could listen 24 hours a day to an untreated, meditative live sound which was interrupted, only seldomly, by brief references to the exhibition - or by the short spot by Andres Bosshard.

RADIO ZEITGLEICH. 107.7 MHz

Während der Ausstellung wurde auf der Frequenz 107,7 MHz, einer Reportagefrequenz des ORF, folgendes Material gesendet.

In unregelmäßigen Abständen drei bis vier Mal pro Tag:
  • Kurze Beschreibungen der Ausstellung ZEITGLEICH in deutscher, slowenischer, kroatischer, serbischer und türkischer Sprache.
  • "ZEITGLEICH", Radiojingle für eine Ausstellung von Bernhard Loibner
  • Ein Kurzspot von Andres Bosshard
Ein einziges Mal gegen Ende der Ausstellung:
eine Sendung, die von der Gruppe FREIRAD Tirol über "ZEITGLEICH" gestaltet worden war.

Rund um die Uhr:
der Live-Teil der Installation von Bill Fontana, aufgenommen von einem Mikrofon, das im Halltal in einem ausgehöhlten Baumstamm - einem Teil der ehemaligen Soleleitung installiert und via Postleitung mit dem Salzmagazin verbunden war. Zu hören waren das Resonanzgeräusch der Röhre und die durch die Röhre gefilterten Geräusche aus der Umgebung: Vögel, bellende Hunde, Arbeitsgeräusche, Regen, Donner....

Der Sender diente eigentlich der Kontrolle der Live-Leitung aus dem Halltal durch die ORF Technik. Für vorbeifahrende Auto-fahrer oder in näherer Umgebung des Salzmagazins wohnende Anrainer aber stellte er eine höchst ungewöhnliche Alternative zu den üblichen Radioprogrammen dar, die bekanntlich strengen zeitlichen Regelungen und Fragmentierungen unterworfen sind: auf 107,7 FM hörte man 24 Stunden lang ein unbehandeltes, unmanipuliertes und sehr lang andauerndes meditatives Live-Geräusch, das nur selten, zu nicht voraussagbaren Zeiten durch Hinweise auf die Ausstellung und den Spot von Andres Bosshard kurz unterbrochen wurde.
