"The Fugue"

for violoncello, sampler, vocals, electric guitar and live recorded environmental sounds

AN INTRODUCTION

Each voice in this peice has its own theme. These sounds are taken live from the acoustic environment of the place of our performance via microphones.
There are sounds from the ship (engine room), the AU (birds, trees, wind), the water (the river March), and Devin (the audience).
The musicians had to find an instrumental answer to the place: the five models.
These complex sound structures are together with the themes the basic sound materials of the peice.

The five models exist:
in a basic form
the first variation (an accumulation)
the second variation (a reduction) of the sound material.

The score is divided into several fields:
empty fields without frames are for the conductors input
subfields (fields with extended lines) for their dynamic input
dark grey fields are the connections of the fleeing voices - a soundsurface
in any frame without an icon, there is no instrumental action going on

icons:

the 5 models and their variations

the modifiers
accelerando ritardando the possibility to mirror any parameter of the model

the whirl :   --a mixture of the five models

input rules:

fuchs/eckermann - violoncello
paul modler - sampler
karl petermichl - vocals
andrew bentley - guitar
min 0 to min 10 "one conductor to one musician, take the theme of your voice and anything except the whirl and the variations"
min 10 to min 15 "all condoctors to all musicians, take anything except the whirl and the variations"
min 15 to min 20 "one conductor to one musician, take only the themes"
min 20 to min 25 "all conductors to all musicians, and all *conductors to all conductors, take only the whirl and the first variations"
the modifiers allways relate to the soundstructure just played before (e.g. 5 and the snail, is a ritardando of model 5, a mirror afterwards will mirror the ritardando of model 5...what about to modify an empty field?)
*you are allowed to change the fileds of other conductors

input handling:

click in the input fields and drag the input frame to any length
