RIVERS & BRIDGES

[Lyd - lab]

In Denmark we don't have any rivers, the nearest we can get is what we call an "Å". The Letter Å is unique to us, it only exists in the Scandinavian languages. Therefore we have chosen to use the letter "Å" as the sound basis of our composition for teh Rivers&Bridges postcard.

We have for a long period experimented with sound poetry or rather the sound of poetry, i.e. fragments of words, syllables etc, decomposed words from the meaningful to the meaningless and back again. In "Å & BRO" we are working from the meaning of the word "å" to the meaning of the concept of a river, meeting the barrier of a "bro"(bridge).

A (river): BRO (bridge)
dynamic - static
living - dead
long - short
complex - simple
nature - culture
soft - hard
etc.

These opposite characters collides when the "Å" meets a "BRO". When this collision occurs, both the meaning of the river and the bridge is juxtaposed. But, it is also here at this point that interesting things occur in our minds - through the collision of two opposites a third meaning is created, and this is a unique meaning to th listner

In a metaphoric land a struggle occurs between a river and a bridge.
