Matt Smith, 1974 in Innsbruck (A). Lives in Vancouver (CAN).
Matt Smith was one of the founders of FirstFloor Electronix (Linz/Wien/München/London/Vancouver) in 1995 and has, since 1997, been a participant in many international network projects such as Recycling the Future (1997), Immersive Sound (1998), Sound Drifting (1999) etc. Since 1999 he produces a weekly 3 hour live radio-show on CITR Vancouver, the radio-station of the University of British Columbia. Since 1998 he has helped set up different forms of network services for cultural institutions including the first public access computers at Tacheles, Berlin, initiated media streaming at the Western Front Society, Vancouver, and installed and maintained the first live-stream from CITR from 1999 to 2001.
In 2002 Matt founded the Artist Run Limousine together with Sandra Wintner (and the generous help of others) as a mobile artist-run-space. Since then they have realised a number of collaborative projects. In July 2004 Matt will travel to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to develop the Artist Run Limousine's latest project, Audiomobile, in residency at paved Art + New Media. In August 2004 Sandra and Matt will produce a version of Audiomobile for the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz. In October Audiomobile will be performed at the send+receive Festival of Sound 2004.
