In 2004, the LONG NIGHT OF RADIOART is not only fed by a network of remote nodes using the now almost traditional streaming media and other communications-technologies. The LONG NIGHT OF RADIOART 2004 will also be the very first occasion on which Österreich 1, the cultural channel of the ORF will broadcast LIVE for over 10 hours in the new 5.1 format. RE-INVENTING RADIO - THE LONG NIGHT OF RADIO-ART will definitely also be the very first 5.1 Live-Project produced collaboratively by artists working in a network of geographically remote nodes.

The LONG NIGHT OF RADIOART 2004 stands in a long tradition of  "NIGHTS OF LIVE RADIOART", which started 15 years ago as a coproduction of KUNSTRADIO,
the ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL 1989 ("IN THE NETWORK OF SYSTEMS". In these 15 years, each of the LONG NIGHTS OF RADIOART, the participating artists, using innovative collages of new (and old) technologies focussed on different aspects of the rapidly changing radio-medium and the growing importance of radio-technologies.
