Art was born one million and fourty-nine years ago, and Fluxus was started 50 years ago (let’s agree on that). Created in 1963 by the French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou, Art’s Birthday is a genuine Fluxus idea. In 2012, Kunstradio brings these two anniversaries together by celebrating Art’s Birthday with a Fluxus focus and some special guests.

Angélica Castelló sets up a blinking, beeping, chirring and wheering electro altar to honour radio and other electronic devices. Hank Bull joins us from Vancouver with an elegant multi-lingual cacophony based on a poem by Robert Filliou. Volkmar Klien connects Vienna to the Art's Birthday network and contributes a new composition called "Gatschhammer". Ben Patterson, a Fluxus pioneer who was there when it started in Wiesbaden in 1962, will perform. Billy Roisz, dieb13 and Burkhard Stangl - in reference to a 1976 Fluxus performance - engage in sonic hair removal. In their performance "Audiovisual object manipulation", the group ffid (Conny Zenk, Matthias Hurtl and Markus Liszt) shows an abstract juggling intervention with instruments such as bicycle wheel. Gunther Schneider sets of a chain reaction by dropping a table tennis ball. Didi Bruckmayer and Bernhard Loibner join for language and electronics based performance, and further guests are the Slovenian media and concept artist Marko Kosnik, co-founder of Laibach, as well as the radical performance group God's entertainment from Vienna, Julius Deutschbauer, Thomas Geiger, Bernhard Cella, Michael Saup, Susanne Rogenhofer, Bastian Wilplinger and Daniel Benedek.

All of this – nothing less and possibly more – can be experienced live and on site or on the Art’s Birthday network via satellite, radio and webstream. The network is eternal, la fete est permanente!
