Robert Piotrowicz


Robert Piotrowicz is one of the most prolific artists on the Polish experimental and improvised music scene. In addition to developing his own solo projects, he also collaborates with the world's leading sound artists and musicians.
As an instrumentalist, Piotrowicz works mainly with his own live performance setup, developed around his electric guitar and analogue modular synthesizer. He is both an accomplished performer of his own music and an experienced improviser in different instrumental configurations with other artists. His other activities include electro-acoustic studio compositions, compositions for theatre, participation in interdisciplinary art projects, and sound installations.

Piotrowicz's trademark sound features intense dynamics performed in a dramatic and balanced form. He has released several solo albums, the last being Lasting Clinamen (2008), which was highly acclaimed by critics around the globe.
As an instrumentalist and composer, Piotrowicz's most frequent collaborators include Anna Zaradny, Burkhard Stangl, and Zbigniew Karkowsk. In recent years he has also worked with Oren Ambarchi, Jerome Noetinger, Valerio Tricoli, Xavier Charles, Lasse Marhaug, John Hegre, Tony Buck, and Kevin Drumm, among others.

The long list of interdisciplinary projects in which Piotrowicz has participated include Zmartwychwstanie, Homage, TOJTOJ, Summe von Nullen, and Definition. He has also composed music for the theatre plays Lastade and Łasztownia 2008. Cztery obrazy w przestrzeni (directed by J. Turkowski and I. Thormann, Teatr Kana), Smierc czlowieka wiewiórki, and Bóg/Honor/Ojczyzna: Katarzyna Medycejska.
Piotrowicz has participated in many international events and festivals,including In Between (Chicago 2001), jazz in e. (Germany),Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2001, Audio Art Festival 2000, Muzyka z Mozgu2000, Artgenda 2002, Horbar Festival (Hamburg 2002), ALTF4 Warszawa,Nova Paka 2003, Inländer Raus! (Berlin 2003), SKIFF, NPAI Pathenay, AuxPole'n, Densities 2005, Ultra Hang 2007, HaPzura 2007, ClubTransmediale 2008, and Stimul 08. Together with Anna Zaradny, he operates the Musica Genera label and organizes the annual Musica Genera festival.
