João Castro Pinto

João Castro Pinto is a Portuguese artist interessed in the art of composing silence with sounds.
He studied Philosophy at the New University of Lisbon and is currently researching for his Ph.D. studies in Computer Music @ U.C.P. / C.I.T.A.R. - Research Centre for Science and Technology of the Arts.
João Castro Pinto’s sound work ranges between: field recordings / soundscape composition, dense droning, noise, electroacoustic, acousmatic, tape music & experimental electronic genres.
J. Castro Pinto has presented his intermedia and sound work since the mid 90´s, in over 100 performances / concerts, all over Europe, the U.S.A. and Asia.
Conceived and directed the "Hertzoscópio - Experimental & Transdisciplinary Arts Festival" dedicated to the divulgation of contemporary experimental music, video-art and intermedia. The first edition of the festival (2003) was co-directed with fellow sound artist and composer Nuno Morão.
The Hertzoscópio aims to stimulate the creation and diffusion of experimental and trans-disciplinary arts through the presentation of works, concerts & performances from recognized artists & promising revelations, trying to consolidate the expression an interdisciplinary culture within the context of contemporary arts.
This festival has the goal to supply formation and to valorize the emergent audience that is increasingly interested in the use of the new technologies associated with the main artistic forms of expression.
