Michael Moser



michael moser was born in 1959 in graz/austria and studied cello at the university of music in graz and vienna with hildgund posch, tobias kühne and rudolph leopold. already during his studies (of classical music) he started to be intensively engaged with different forms of contemporary music - composition, improvisation, theatre and filmmusic, performance etc. - searching to enlarge the cello´s idiomatic reportoire of expression through experimenting with live-electronics. michael moser works as a soloist and chamber musician in europe, japan and the usa giving premieres, radio broadcasts and cd productions. numerous pieces for cello solo have been composed on his suggestion. collaboration a.o. with peter ablinger, bernhard lang, isabel mundry, helmut lachenmann, vinko globokar, elliott sharp, winfried ritsch, clemens gadenstätter, silvia fomina, tony oxley, polwechsel, klangforum wien, ensemble neue musik wien. cd releases with the ensemble ton art (malvumaldit hat art cd 6088), powechsel (hat now art 112 and 119), maxixe (loose music ra 015) and with b. stangl and w. dafeldecker (extraplatte ex 159 cd). his solo cd 'violoncello' with four new compositions was released 1998 on durian records durian 007/2.
