In the radio play Ocean World by the duo wittmann/zeitblum, the oceans are interpreted as political, philosophical and poetic spaces and condensed into an intensive acoustic narrative. At the center is the figure of the entrepreneur, the Captain, who traverses oceans and epochs on behalf of their utilization. In the process, he encounters Francis Bacon's New Atlantis, Thomas Cook's travel system, the Black Atlantic and other trade flows, as well as polar sound worlds and an extraterrestrial ocean. Between natural sounds and electronic sound synthesis, the result is a cultural-historical examination of the oceans, with a focus on the European project of progress. "The ominous main character in this radio play bears traits of Sisyphus. For his task never comes to an end, there is always something left to do, throughout all the centuries. But in one point this captain differs significantly from the king of Corinth, punished by the gods: the captain achieves one success after another. He is not driven by the ambition to overcome the hardships imposed on him, but by the greed to squeeze even more out of the oceans. The author-musician duo wittmann/zeitblom goes to sea in their play, and surveys it in a combination of sense and sound."
