In its first five-year cycle, from 2016 to 2020, the international project and artist-in-residency program IMAGONIRMIA supported a series of projects and research aimed at exploring different versions of artistic languages and formats.
The desire to reshape the poetics and politics of place, to reimagine landscape as a space/time of life and interspecies relationships, was at the forefront from the beginning. And always with the goal of providing new approaches to contemporary thought and action. Every year IMAGONIRMIA invites artists to submit their works in an "Open Call".
Ö1 Kunstradio presents works of the winner of the Imagonirmia edition 2020 namely sound works of the project Helicotrema.
Helicotrema is an annual touring festival dedicated to collective listening, founded and curated by the artist collective Blauer Hase (Riccardo Giacconi, Mario Ciaramitaro, Daniele Zoico) and since 2012 together with Giulia Morucchio.
The festival presents in its program pre-recorded audio pieces. Inspired by the early radio decades, it explores different forms of collective listening and experiments with different contexts. The festival presents sound works by international writers and artists, including radio plays, audio documentaries, soundscapes, experimental poetry, and various audio-based narrative formats. Helicotrema is divided into a series of listening days with listening sessions.
In 2020, the 9th edition of Helicotrema took place in Modena with the support of Premio Imagonirmia and its curator Isabella Bordoni. The radio piece "Helicotrema. An incomplete self-portrait" is created within the framework of the Premio Imagonirmia 2020 and as one of its results in addition to the live presentation and to the edition INDEX HELICOTREMA (incl. booklet and flexi disc) which will be published at Imagonirmia / viaindustriae publishing in April 2021. For Ö1 Kunstradio a format was developed that can be described as an "artist-conference-portrait", through the research and the acoustic outcomes open up further possibilities.
Along the themes of the interviews, aesthetic self-narration and listening, Helicotrema is invited to present a selection of pieces from different editions of the festival. This selection aims to highlight the various attitudes of the festival towards audio storytelling.
