The Finnish sound designer and composer Pekka Sirén passed away in October 2019. For this sad occasion some colleagues of the EBU Ars Acustica group have sent their memories and "Power of Mountains" from 2006 will be presented, which he developed together with his wife Agnieszka Waligorska and finished in the ORF Funkhaus in Vienna.
Agnieszka Waligorska and Pekka Sirén together formed the Polish-Finnish artist duo Pro Ton Sonic Art Group. Together they were involved in the Ars Acustica Group of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and rom the beginning they have been important members of the group. ProTon Sonic Art Group has produced radiophonic compositions for Westdeutscher Rundfunk WDR, Spanish Radio RNE, Ö1 Kunstradio, RAI Audiobox and Deutschlandfunk Berlin. Together they gave numerous concerts, performances and lectures all over the world.
Pekka Sirén studied radio and television theory at the University of Tampere and has been working as a sound engineer for Finnish radio and television YLE since 1964. In 1973 he was the founder of the Experimental Studio of Finnish Radio, which he directed for many years. In the course of his work, he has created over 170 compositions for TV, radio and also as film music, for ballet, theatre, exhibitions, multimedia and sound performances. He has been awarded several prizes, including the prize of the International Composing Competition in Bourges, France.
