The festival phonofemme was conceived by the artists Mia Zabelka and Zahra Mani. This year’s theme was “Disembodied Spaces”. phonoFEMME 2019 took place in the Radiocafe and live on air in "Ö1 Radiokunst - Kunstradio". phonofemme 2019 — Disembodied Spaces deals with disembodied spaces and the question of the boundaries between the physical existence of sound and its resonances: where are the boundaries of sound spaces, how can they be shaped and manipulated, and what happens when these processes are artistically applied to the center and politically received? Individual perception is a necessary condition for creativity in art; the collective perception of the recipients creates social spaces from which changes arise. The disembodied live performances of the first evening radiate into the radio space and on the second evening are transmitted acoustically into the ether. Individual interpretations of the sound encounters grow together to form a collaborative live radio art performance in a disembodied space. This is in turn received by the listeners in the intimacy of their own radio listening space, disembodied by the transmission or encounter of the artists in the virtual space of a radio network between ORF Ö1 Kunstradio and the San Marino radio station USMA Radio. In both radio studios two artists perform live at the same time. The sounds of the two performances are sent via live stream to the other participating studio. The live sounds will be mixed with the signals from the other studio. The mixed sum of these two tracks will be broadcast by the two radio stations. Two different versions of the same piece are created simultaneously on air. phonofemme 2019 took place in cooperation with Elektronmusikstudion EMS Stockholm, dem Österreichischen Komponistenbund (ÖKB), dem ORF Radiokulturhaus, dem Ö1 Radiokunst-Kunstradio und dem USMA Radio statt.
