With the conversion of the radio transmission technology from VHF to DAB, the analogue signal is replaced by a digital one. From an acoustic point of view consequence is that the frequency noises are no longer added to the transmitted sound. This means a pure signal without any radio noise.

However, the objective sound does not exist with DAB either. DAB (such as CD or MP3 player) still has different sound qualities, depending on the amount of data and the quality of the players. On the other hand, the peculiarities of the transmission medium can no longer be heard.

Soon the radio medium therefore no longer expresses itself acoustically in relation to the sound being transmitted.

Radio is good when you can't hear it. Thus the medium radio disappears from the acoustically recognizable world. The radio ceases to exist acoustically. In Switzerland, this will be the case between 2020 and 2024. The VHF transmitters will then be switched off.

The imminent shutdown of the VHF transmitters was the reason for Blablabor to start the production of a farewell to the analogue VHF technology that remains silent in the digital age.
