86400 seconds - Time Zones is a piece about time, the perception of the now time time. The title refers to the numbers of seconds include in a day. 60 sec X 60 min X 24 hours = 86400 seconds. In this project, every seconds is counted by a human being at the rhythmn (the speed) of a second, giving to the passage of time a human voice.

The project started in summer 2013. When asking various persons to perform the count of numbers. Every participants had to say several hundreds of figures between 1 and 86400. Nowadays over 145 persons have given their voice to the project and counted in 25 languages plus other dialects. Among other languages we hear : armenian, arabic, brazilian, chinese, corean, english, farsi, finnish, french, german, hebrew, indonesian, italian, japanese, mandarin, portugese and spanish, tibetan.

In 86400 seconds - Time Zones version, the 24 hours are compressed in 60 minutes. The listener is crossing a time zone every 2m30 seconds. The count is synchronized with the real time, the seconds speed.

The count starts at Time Zone -8 (which covers Canada and USA) and reach the time zone +12 at the end of the show. The organization of the counting is done for real time correspondance. Also the structure of the piece is based on the amount of population living in each tome zones.
+5 (India, Pakistan, Russia) and +8 (China, indonesia, Australia) are so far the biggest zones in termes of population. Whereas, -2 and -1 are mainly occupied by the ocean. A production by Soundproof – ABC Radio.
