21.) Radio-Music for Gamepad and Aalto

sound PLAY

This music is played using a standard, unmodified gamepad to control the Aalto software synthesizer, created by Randy Jones. Aalto is a virtual synthesizer “plug-in” inspired by the modular synthesizers of the 1960s and 1970s. Those old synthesizers my first electronic instruments, way back in the 1970s. Those old synthesizers were extremely expensive. In recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in such instruments, though they remain prohibitively expensive for most people. Aalto costs less than 100 Euros. I took it as a challenge to see if I create a musical world using this just this single software synthesizer. I did have to write some code to map the gamepad onto the synthesizer. The results may surprise those who insist that digital synthesizers don’t make interesting sound.

2.) Meditations

The two additional tracks are "meditations." They are also made with the Aalto synthesizer but no gamepad. They are generated algorithmically. My next project will be a large collection of these meditations. The tracks I sent are the first two items in the collection.
