On 17th January, artists all around the globe
celebrated the 1,000.049th birthday of Art. According to Robert
Filliou, Art was born when somebody dropped a dry sponge in a bucket
full of water. And it has lived on ever since. In this review of Art’s Birthday 2012 we present gifts and concerts for Art, which where exchanged via the Eternal network’s tools such as radio, satellite and foremost internet. We listen in to a selection of performances and live streams from a variety of groups and institutions. In Slovenia artists, composers and sound researchers contributed to the project “Soundings” on Radio Ljubljana and Radio Cona. At Vienna’s University of Applied Arts, Renate Quehenberger, Peter Weibel, Mia Zabelka performed the project Quantenkino. Toronto’s radio NAISA celebrated with a live webradio jam by Darren Copeland, Jim Bailey, Jamie Todd, Hilary Martin and Hector Centeno. And in Karlsruhe – as one of a total of 24 contributions to the Ars Acustica network – Jan Jelinek dived into the SWR archives for selecting some rare material of spoken word recordings for his live concert at the ZKM.
