The radiopiece “The Fatalistic Flatworm" in English language is the first in a series of radioplays about “Animal Perversities & Empathy”.  The live recording includes more improvised musical or sound parts around the texts. The idea was to play a few live concerts and 'learn' the real pace of the piece by playing it for a live audience.

characters:
The Fatalistic Flatworm (FF): resounding masculine voice
Rump (R): a less masculine lighter voice
The Omniscient Narrator (ON): ultimate masculine very resounding voice.

Before being on air at Kunstradio, the piece is played three times in three days, it evolves and develops during these three performances. Sometimes The Static Tics also work the other way around (make a play for radio, edit & mix  it, then play it live): “This is our interest: to make radio a live event or to make playing live like listening to the radio…”

The Fatalistic Flatworm played a dangerous game with reality. Was his sense of reality actually a valuable source or was it more an erosion of his initially almost bestial fervour to reveal absolutely nothing of his self-taught table manners?
It was as if he had to endlessly crawl through a long tunnel; so life felt. The search for identity became an obsession, especially when after slightly perforating his intestine he chanced upon his own rump and fell head over heels in love.
Seized by idiosyncrasy with dubious roots he felt life spinning towards him like a buttercup that threatens to squash a steamroller.

“The band Static Tics started as an excuse to improvise with laptops and maybe also to have an excuse to edit the stuff we played and to make radio. So through the years, The Static Tics remained at the core of the WORM radio department, making radioplays, documentaries and radio magazines.
Using anything that we had on our hard discs; the brain, the rain, the aim in Spain, radiojams, fieldrecordings, studiorecordings, live improvs... The concept was that editing and being unspontaneous can be just as interesting as a live-concert; just the dynamics differ....”
