A
stay in the Australian Outback and his firm living situation at the
edge of the Rhine Valley with an overview of 40-50 km triggered
Johannes S. Sistermanns' interest in acoustic events in the horizon of
perception. In his composition „in the edge of sound” Sistermanns explores various aspects of sound phenomena: foreground and background, auditory thresholds, transition and passage up to the peripheric location of its cosmic occurrence in the universe. Edge is internal space border. Edge is horizon of audibility. And sound, which creates new mixtures at its dissolving transitions: a play with identity, self statement and always new sound passages. The sources of these moments, situations and frequencies were found in the Australian Outback, Rhine Valley, Atlantic ocean of France, in moving leaves of a corn field close to Sistermann’s hometown Bornheim, in the Deutzer Rhine bridge of Cologne, on New York’s Time Square, in everyday life things and daily actions, edge of text, edge of voice, extensive interiors, a Chinese pedestrian tunnel pulsating between two main streets and in the extensive district of sky temples in Beijing.
