Mountains trigger dualistic, manifold and complex images and concepts in human imagination.
On the one hand, mankind has always tried conquer the mountains by climbing to their tops; on the other hand we strive to transform the enormous power of the water to serve mans our needs by means of water wheels, generators, and waterfalls and we desire turning deserts into lush landscapes; then again we regard mountains simply for the visual pleasure they give us. Mountains are mysterious: one day they're visible, the next day they have seemingly disappeared. Mountains can represent the safety of a fortress, but they also can be the source for great danger and catastrophies, e.g. avalanches, landslides or the eruption of a vulcano.

In the Basque region between the Spanish and French borders, the authors recorded the voices of the people living up in the mountains, made recordings of their everyday life, of animals and of the sounds of the mountains themselves. These voices come and go in waves throughout the piece, this rhythmic structure is sometimes left in its natural form, from time to time it is a result of man's desire to capture the power of the mountains by domesticating them - but mountains have their own force.

The piece "Power of Mountains" was realized at the Cracow Music Academy's Electronic Studio and at the composer's home studio in Sirius in Finland. The final mix was realized at the digital studio of the ORF in 2005.
