Groove is a limited edition of 60 audio CDs. Vinyl-style record grooves are cut onto the outer rim of each disc and patterned with cutting tools and files. The sound of these grooves - buzzes, low rumbles, clicks and odd vibrations - form a collage: burnt as digital audio onto the inner rings of the CD. The listener can choose to play the unique locked groove on a turntable, or listen to the collage on their CD player. For the radio performance, a new set of grooves will cut live on air with the resulting mix forming the Kunstradio | Vienna edition of the CD.

Preying mantis robots
experiments in syncronized metal-motion.
in 5.1 Dolby Surround

by Absolute Value of Noise alias Peter Courtemanche

Preying Mantis-Robots is a new installation piece that consists of a set of robots that move about in a space and communicate using a wireless Internet connection. These robots are modeled after an imaginary jade-green preying mantis - a mechanical creature that is described in the "Martian Chronicles" (by Ray Bradbury). The robots can move about in an indoor gallery or outdoors in an area with suitable curbs or barriers. They engage in solo and choreographed group activities. The sound of their motors, motion and engagement in a small performance space will be mixed for a surround sound environment on the radio. This will form the first of a series of robot audio works to be released on a CD edition later in 2005.
