1. notes
##################################################################################

DADA TO GO is still under construction. Therefore, spelling and grammar are still
poor to bad. And this won't change in the near future as, at the moment, all
attention is focused on the completion of the walkthrough. I'd therefore like to
ask you not to send any emails referring to such mistakes. Whereas I'm very happy
to receive mails from the DADAtogo community.

2. introduction
##################################################################################

The DADA TO GO FAQ should help you to face through the whole text. If you're
looking for the quickest way through the text, this is not the right FAQ for you.
If you want the whole text continue reading.

This FAQ is structured simply and deals with the text from a to b (z is for beginners).
DADA TO GO allows you to hop around within the text; surely, a lot of you like that.
However, I try to avoid this and like to call a spade a spade.

3. WALKTHROUGH LEVELS
##################################################################################

The starting situation
In the beginning of Dada was boredom. You're stuck in a text.

1. Open the text and read. The code for the entrance is at the end of the text.
Don't forget the quotation marks. Then press enter.
2. Open the blanks.
3. Pay attention to the readme file as often as possible. It provides hints.
4. Examine the code.
5. Look for money.
6. Head straight forward for the muse-machine and study it.
7. Climb the ladder and lean far out of the text.
8. Turn the switch and keep moving.
9. Exit the text on the opposite page / side.
10. Go to the Dada gods. They laugh at you and are wearing T-shirts.

I'll try to summarise the most important elements of DADA TO GO.
If you need a brief survey, you'll be informed quickly here:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0) avant-garde
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DADA TO GO reverts to "AVANTGARDE UNDER NET CONDITIONS" which provides a survey on
current avant-garde approaches on the internet. Partially published in Perspektive,
issue 43, 2002.
The complete survey can be found at:

http://avantgarde.netzliteratur.net/

DADA was one of the focal points.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a) 391.org
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

magazine - web project - broadcast. international dada project including all sorts of
dadaists. Refer most clearly to historical Dadaism. Work almost exclusively with virtual
identities (a.o. babel, hugo baron, antiram).

The name "391.org" refers to the magazine edited and published by francis picabia in 1917
which aimed at connecting different Dada groups.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b) anna banana
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

anna banana stands for Dada tendencies within mail art (connections to the Dada
groups "bay area dada", "dadaland" and "mendo area dadaists"). She connects collage
and montage in a technical sense with mail art and pursues the deliberate
trivialization of art and artists in her bananalogy.
Dada's role within mail art still has to be studied. Despite explicit references to
Fluxus, it is often ignored how many mail artists also refer to Dada (a.o. the
blah brothers, vittore baroni, susanna lakner, pips dada corporation).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c) frieder rusmann
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marcel Duchamp's consequent successor and Dada heir. After the artist's death
(Dada), he's working on the death of the art work (postdada).
net.artist and curator of this project. ;-)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
d) RongWrong
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dada city state. The rongwrong network comprises various puppet states. Founded in
1994 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the group works with almost hypnotical linguistic
material which mutates the terms Dada and rongwrong and places these in different
linguistic and content contexts (RongWrong koans, self-definitions / counter
definitions, "what is RongWrong", branding).
Mark Whitaker acts as the "emporer of signs" and holds the controlling interest of
the RongWrong puppet states. The concept of the "virtual state" (rather common
also in mail art) pursues the tradition of international Dadaism and stands
within the context of current (artistic) network strategies.

The name "rongwrong" refers to a maginzine of the same name published by
Marcel Duchamp in 1917.

At present, RongWrong is not available on-line.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e) neumerz
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

an anarchistic Dada movement on the net that rejects any Dada mission whatsoever.
Founded by John Wirtz and Victor Zygonov in Chicago in 1995, the group has strong
connections to punk (e.g. the band "anarchy ass"). The name refers to Schwitters'
"merz" and, with the attribute "new" draws a present, radical reference.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
f) wwdada
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

within www-text, wwdada [pron. da'da' - ww is silent] works towards the destruction of
information (InfoDestruction Art). Following common branding strategies, it develops
multiple identities as micro-, macro- and hyperdada.

unfortunately, it is no longer on-line.

g) dadasophin
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

dada-mixer (call me reiner). After the death of the author (dada) and the art work
(postdada), she's working on the death of the audience (retourdada).

More or less the only way to contact me - via email: dadasophinATlizzynet.de

just write "DADA TO GO FAQ" in the text. Then I know it's not spam mail.
I've noted everything I know about the text here. So if you want to know more about
the text, I'm no great help.

And please be patient with me. I receive 80 texts a day and it takes a while to reply.
But I read and answer them all.

##################################################################################

Since the last version of FAQ, a lot of people have sent me texts. Some of them I
had already. But I would still like to say thank you (I have no idea how to really
thank you, but I hope it's alright this way):

Michael H. Gerloff for the microphone text; his pitch of the voice and all that.
Reiner, Mike, and Chrystal from at & t their voices and mechanical patience.
Frieder Rusmann for the option.
And various sound programmes in steady rotation.
