The future of all radio
is silence

curated by: resonance FM

[ English Version ]

[ Deutsche Version ]

This, the final album in the Resonance Radio series explores both a unique property of radio and a particular problem - how to deal with the Radio Archive. The Radio Archive is the sum total of everything that has been transmitted by radio - from the first Hertzian sparks to what you are hearing at this moment in time. The archive functions like an organism desperate to ensure it's own replication, continually adding to it's own corporeality. The implications of an archive of such immense scale lead us to a strange realisation. Eventually, the present will be subsumed by the sheer dead weight of the archive, which will come to generate all radio programming. Old News will be recycled into new, music reprocessed into endless variations of crushing novelty, phonemes shuffled paradigmatically to produce chats shows, phone-ins, interviews. At this point, radio listening will have become nothing more than a global hallucination. Cue audience reaching for their off switches or simply throwing their radios into specially excavated landfills. The future of all radio is silence.

In this week's album, our protagonist, Harmon e. Phraisyar, travels 1,000 years into the future - to a time when all radio transmissions have been silenced. At journey's end, Harmon encounters 'The Builder', a supremely centralised being who comprises the heart of the circular nature of reality.
