The first soundcard, the first acoustic postcard from Serbia, presents a snapshot not from the daily life in Serbia as one would assume, but focuses on the technology, which more then anything else, helps us to overcome geographical distances and which also catapulted the medium radio in a new dimension. We are talking about the computer. As a basis for the soundscape Soundware v1.5 Aleksandar Vasiljevic and the members of domin8r have used sound effects, which are produced as a kind of acoustic garbage while doing certain computer-transactions. For example they have recorded the analogue audio output of an AMIGA 500, while it is reading files, none of which are audio-files. According to Aleksandar Vasiljevic, sounds like this have a psychological effect on us, also if we are not always aware of it. It is a kind of sound, with which we feel very familiar. Sometimes these sounds are calming us down, sometimes they are irritating us or even frightening us. In any case, there is a logical connection between these sounds and the particular computer-task, and therefore they are often telling us more about the particular stage of process than a standardized VGA screen info.

V1.5 stands for version 1 5. Soundware was presented for the first time in December 2001 in the framework of Interferences 2nd International Festival of Urban Multimedia Arts in Belfort in France. Since then, the project remains in a constant work in progress.
