THE MIRRORED CRY

Can we dissolve our sense of separation from nature by imitating its
audible traces - the sound of wind, the song of birds, the patter of
rain drops? Perhaps our most ultimate sense of oneness was within our
mother's womb, when there was no sense of division between self and
the beat of her heart. Does the act of mimicry rekindle that deep memory? In "The Mirrored Cry" improvising vocalist Jo Truman retraces and reflects
on her personal journey through vocal mimicry. For her, the voice is
the bridge between self and other. In this work the voice is celebrated
as a powerful vehicle for expression and for life itself.
