Ion Pearce ist ein zeitgenössischer australischer Komponist, der in "Revolutions in the Sun" auf die Revolutionskunst Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts zurückblickt, die, laut Pearce, ihren Zenit rund um die Ereignisse der Russischen Revolution erreicht hatte. Ion Pearce erforschte den Idealismus, die epische Qualität und die Hingebung, mit der sich diese Kunst dem Fortschritt der Massen verpflichtet sah und kreierte schließlich ein Stück, das zum einen zwar ironisch ist, zum anderen aber auch durchaus ernste Fragen über das Leben und Schaffen eines Künstlers stellt, der unter einem Regime ökonomischen Rationalismus lebt, "as we live life under the sun of the much touted workers' paradise here in Australia."

Time advances diurnally, planet Earth spins around the sun, and over and over, now, as in former times, certain artists consider the conjunction of what they are attempting to create, with how they go about doing it - with their artistic practice.

Ion Pearce is a contemporary Australian composer who, in making this piece, has looked back on revolutionary art earlier in the century, which was at its zenith around the events of the Russian Revolution. Observing its idealist spirit, its epic quality, its dedication to the progress of the masses, Ion Pearce has created an ironic musical composition that poses serious questions about artistic life and practice under a regime of economic rationalists, as we live life under the sun of the much touted workers' paradise here in Australia.

The future is now! There are no mass revolutionary orchestras to hand to perform these stirring compositions, but thanks to electronic sampling, and the possibilities made available by employing digital technology in our radio studios, a virtual orchestra is possible, and fitting to the times, rather economical.

Die Route führt durch eine virtuelle Insellandschaft, bestehend aus diversen Sounds gesprochen, gelesen und gesungen in Brasilianischem Portugiesisch. So mancher Sound lässt Erinnerungen an bekannte Orte und Plätze wach werden — versucht man dann aber diese Erinnerungen festzumachen, so bleibt doch nur die eigentliche Stimme in ihrer klanglichen Einzigartigkeit und das Gefühl, das sich hinter den Worten verbirgt. "Die Songs sind wie Papierschiffe, die von einem Platz irgendwo ganz weit weg gestartet wurden. Wir hören zu wie sich die Tinte langsam auflöst und ins Meer fließt. "Brazil is imagined from Australia using vocal sounds evoking a new kind of travelling: a purely acoustic internet. We glide between virtual islands created in a foreign language (Brazilian Portuguese). These archipelagos of text are read aloud, sounded and chanted as we move on waves through radio time. The sounds suggest many spaces and places but remain partly mysterious, leaving us the musical quality of the language, the emotional intent behind the words.
